Scope of works:

After competitively tendering, we were awarded this project by our combined public and private sector customer after demonstrating the highest level of technical understanding and most thoroughly prepared solutions to the challenges of the project. Our scope included:

  • Floating support of existing Warren truss girder bridge and progressive dismantling
  • Installation of piled reinforced concrete abutments, ground anchors and existing river wall stabilisation
  • Offsite fabrication of bridge elements, transportation to site and on site assembly of 340T, 48m span steel arch bridge before launching across River Avon into its final position in a 48 hr. operation
  • Completion of painting, balustrades, vehicle barrier, mastic asphalt and resin bound surfaces, bridge joints, pedestrian furniture and lighting

The works were completed within sight of Crest’s newest residents and over the busy River Avon and adjacent towpath. Liaising with the customer’s team, the Environment Agency, Canals and Rivers Trust and the local authority, our team ensured stakeholders were kept informed about planned activities and that disruption was minimised, with operations undertaken safely, efficiently and considerately.

“Britannia’s intensive focus on the more challenging aspects of the project ultimately led to the successful completion of Destructor Bridge. These included elements of international procurement and a complex bridge launch. We are delighted with the outcome.”
