Viridor Waste Management Ltd. have awarded their contract to construct a waste transfer station at their Dimmer landfill site near Castle Cary to Britannia Construction Ltd.

The work will include the part demolition of existing structures, and the temporary support and extension of a steel framed building with reinforced concrete waste handling bays, together with external works improvements for the reconfigured facility.

The new facility will increase Viridor’s handling capacity of Somerset County waste destined for the new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) being constructed in Avonmouth.

Operations Director Damian Poulter commented:

“This is the first contract we are to undertake for Viridor. We have worked hard to show their team that we are a contractor that will deliver the project safely and efficiently, and will work around their existing operations considerately and collaboratively. It is fantastic that we have secured this project which is an important element of the overall ERF project, and the delivery team are now looking forward to making a start in August to make best use of the summer.”
