PROJECT OUTLINE:
Spirax Sarco, a global engineering company, has two manufacturing sites in Cheltenham either side of a busy road. Britannia was appointed to build a 85 metre tunnel underneath the road joining the two locations. The tunnel comprises a vehicle thoroughfare 3 metres wide x 2.5 metres high with a pedestrian tunnel running alongside it and was constructed using waterproof culverts. Ramps were used to slope down from ground level to a depth of 5 metres on each of the two sites, clearing existing mains services and highways drainage, with the two then connected to create through access.
Special Features/Key Deliverables:
Working in a live site environment ensuring continued operations at client's site and minimising the disruption to traffic and other stakeholders in the local area.
Working collaboratively with the client and utility providers during the installation of the culverts below highways drainage, gas and water mains as well as high voltage cables.
Deep trench excavation & piling works.
Creating a waterproof tunnel to enable client installation of specialist lighting and sprinklers as part of site upgrading programme.
