04/12/2012 Turnstone and Britannia Construction start on St Neots Leisure Development
Work has started on St Neots' new £7 million cinema and leisure development.
Being developed by Turnstone and built by Britannia Construction, the 32,000 sq ft project on Huntingdon Street in St Neots town centre will comprise an 18,600 sq ft six-screen Cineworld cinema (capable also of hosting theatre production) and four restaurants. Frankie & Benny's, Pizza Express and Prezzo have already signed up.
The scheme is scheduled for completion in Autumn next year and will be known as the Rowley Arts Centre following a generous donation to the project from Peter Rowley.
Chris Goldsmith, managing director of Turnstones Estates, says: “We are delighted to have begun construction work on this long anticipated cinema-led project. In less than 12 months time we hope to be able to give the townsfolk of St Neots an early Christmas present.”
Paul Halfpenny, managing director for Britannia Construction, said: “This is an exciting project and one which will bring a fabulous new leisure facility to the people of St Neots and the surrounding towns and villages.”
Other members of the project team are JWA architects, structural engineer Mott MacDonald, cost consultant WT Partnership and O'Brien Contractors.
